Introduction

At Rainbow, food safety and quality are embedded in our culture and we take great pride in the superiority of all our products. Throughout the integrated chicken production process, “from farm to fork”, our priorities include:

Animal welfare, food safety and quality from breeding stock to ensure that only the healthiest and safest protein is supplied to the market.

Investment in technology, automation and training of staff to ensure that we meet international standards that exceed local expectation.


Official Inspection

Health Safety Officers are based at all three processing plants to ensure compliance with the relevant government acts and regulations.

Certified and qualified meat inspectors verify the safety and quality of all our meat, together with inspectors from the MJC (Muslim Judicial Council) and SANHA (South African National Halaal Association) (J’amiatul Ulama) (KwaZulu-Natal). Food Technologists verify the process and products to ensure specification compliance.


HACCP

All of our processing plants operate according to the internationally accepted HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) system to ensure food safety.

The HACCP system is a preventative system based on risk assessment, which also supports Rainbow’s commitment to continuous improvement and consumer protection.

Regular internal and external audits are conducted to ensure compliance with HACCP and Total Quality Management (TQM) System procedures. A philosophy of continuous testing and verification is in place. This includes the selection of breeding stock through to the maintenance of the cold chain between our facilities, our distributors and our customers.

As a result of our stringent quality audits, Rainbow has consistently surpassed the international standards set by our customers. This entitles the company to export products and to maintain export status.


Food Safety and Hygiene

Hygiene isn’t simply about choosing the right disinfectant! At Rainbow, we adopt a Total Quality Management (TQM) approach dedicated to maintaining the safest standards in broiler production, processing and distribution of meat. With constant reviews to assure compliance and effectiveness, we are always able to guarantee that the consumer receives a quality product that is safe to eat.


European Union Standards

Rainbow’s approach is to comply with and continuously benchmark ourselves against European Union (EU) standards as the most recognised international standards.

EU standards are applicable to all aspects of our operations, from production flow, building specifications and personnel flow to protective clothing, ablutions, change rooms, laundry, canteen facilities, packaging and labeling.

When we design new facilities or upgrade existing ones, great care is taken to meet EU standards. With a focus on monitoring, recording and controlling the entire supply chain, this approach endorses our controls and management practices ensuring product safety.
